Dear Parents,
We almost have the first full month under our belts and all students are progressing well in learning the rules and routines of school. In the first few months, we focus mainly on learning the procedures for a typical school day: as well as, learning how to promote a positive class culture.
Once the children have learned the routines well, my focus will turn to helping students increase their stamina (doing one activity, for longer lengths of time, without getting tired or stopping.) for school activities such as: table work, listening during group lessons, exercising, waiting for his/her turn, looking at books, and staying focused and engaged during Language Arts and Math centres.
Successfully achieving these first learning goals, takes time and patience but the payoff is that each child will be able to do so much more, independently; which, will provide me with opportunities to work with individual students and teach small groups of students (enrichment and extra teaching for those who need more learning time).
Your child may be coming home tired and cranky. This is normal. There is so much to learn about school in the first month and this can be a difficult adjustment period for some children. You can support your child by: being positive, ensuring your child is getting enough sleep, and packing good, healthful snacks and lunches. You also might want to limit your child’s afterschool activities. 😊
"Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. "
In life we need to learn to get along with all different types of personalities . School is a great place to begin learning and practicing how to work and play cooperatively with others. Moreover, different personalities are great for a classroom environment because it provides opportunities to learn about many different opinions and ideas!
We are learning that we can only control one person in our class and that person is ourselves! If someone is having a bad day or disagrees with us and hurts our feelings, we have choices. We can engage them in conflict, or we can choose to 'fill their bucket' and speak to that person in a kind way; maintaining the Peace in our classroom. 😊
We are learning to speak up for ourselves and to communicate our feeling. We are problem solvers! You may like to have some conversations with your child about being a problem solver. Describe something that could happen at school and then discuss ‘conflict free’ solutions.
Class Rules
I do not have class rules; but rather, I have kindergarten ‘jobs’.
Each Kindergarten child needs to :
The Teacher needs to :
A Few Last Items:
-I like to teach the curriculum through Themes. Our first Theme is Apples. We are learning about how apple trees change throughout the seasons and how apples develop from a blossom into a large, ripe apple. For fun, we all tried different types of apples last week and made a graph to record our favourite apple. The two favourites were Cosmic Crisp and Red Delicious.
-THANK-YOU for emptying your child’s BEE folder . The children find it much easier to put in new notices when the folder is empty.

The Teacher needs to :
- keep the children safe
